first week of field school and i’m very burnt
our group is working on a 5 x 5 square that is mostly a trench that an archaeologist dug out in the 1990’s and filled in.
so, it is mostly rock, brick, and plaster (ugh)
we found some pottery sherds, lithic flakes, glass, a bunch of bone pieces and teeth (mostly pig and one human), a lego figurine head, and a .22 casing. a lot of other groups are finding washington era wig curlers, but no luck with those in our weird trench. we are digging under the trench next week, so it will be interesting to see what we find after that.
excited to go back on tuesday. fredericksburg is a nice city, excluding the sprawl, and everyone on our excavation crew is really interesting. i watched eurovision with one of the head archaeologists on the site and ate weird fruit. also found out the other lead archaeologist is from hilton in newport news and a fan of monty’s penguin as well.
